iPhone will miss Java

The java mobile developer community will miss iphone for the moment. If the sources are to be believed, there won’t be java support in Apple’s hugely awaited iPhone. In an interview with German magazine MacWelt, Steve Jobs said:

Java’s not worth building in [to the phone]. Nobody uses Java anymore. It’s this big heavyweight ball and chain.

I know none of the mobile application developers and vendors won’t agree to that. It’s hard to buy a phone these days without Java support. According to Java’s creator Sun Microsystems, Java technology is used in over 4 billion devices worldwide.

For developers, the only way to program iPhone is to write web pages which can be viewed in the device.
